And this is the Perimenopositive Origin Story ...
Just in case you were curious!
When I moved back to the UK at the end of 2021 (aged 43) the word perimenopause was everywhere.
Friends were swapping stories about sleepless nights, anxiety spirals and the great portable fan procurement mission of 2022 was ON.
And I'm listening and nodding along and taking it all in and honestly ...
It's all feeling a little bit foreign to me. 😬
None of it was happening to me.
Not the raging insomnia. Except when it’s the moon’s fault. IYKYK 🧙🏻
Not the brain fog. I mean … We’ve all wandered into a room and forgotten why we were there tho? Right? 😳
Not the mood swings - Unless you count that day before menstruation. 🫠
And I couldn't figure out if it was just good luck … or if my "I'm not signing up for this." stance was actually working. 🤔
The only thing I could (really) settle on … Was that maybe ... it was my lifestyle?
15 years of consistent yoga and breathwork practices. Meditation. Gong Baths. The nervous system work. The nourishment. The rhythm. The curiosity and explorations with cleanses and fasting … And all the other weird & wonderful things woven through my Western life. (I’m looking at you tongue scraping & oil pulling!) It wasn't one thing. It was a spiral of things, quietly doing their work.
Who knows if I'm just lucky (so far). What I do know is that somewhere along the way, I started following breadcrumbs. Not a plan. Not a programme. Just a yes, and then another yes. Yoga first - completely inexplicably, and honestly to this day I couldn't tell you why I kept going back. I just had to. And that compulsion quietly changed everything.
I’m just about to turn 48 (I think. 🤔)
The spider that lives in my left ear only introduces herself when I lie down at night.
The cutlery drawer has become a sound I can no longer casually inflict on myself. Strobe lights? An assault. Car headlights at night? Don't get me started.
The other shoe is making itself known. 😬
So know that I'm right here. Walking this path with you. Not ahead of you, not behind you - beside you. With the toolkit I built, the practices I trust, and the absolute conviction that this transition - tender and turbulent as it is - doesn't have to break us.
Perimenopause isn't the end of your story. It's the plot twist where she finally puts herself first.
